'From him I was surprised' - Sagna hits back at 'harsh' Fabregas over Arsenal comments
The previous Gunner's words have left his old partner feeling disillusioned with the man who was accused of captaining the crew
Bacary Sagna has hit back at Cesc Fabregas after his remarks about Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri being the main two players on his level during his last a long time at Arsenal.
During an appearance on the Arsecast webcast, Fabregas talked for a long time about his time in north London and his explanations behind leaving for Barcelona in 2011.
The Spaniard scrutinized the mindset of a portion of his previous partners and conceded he felt that lone Van Persie and Nasri were on a similar frequency as him, both as far as their strategy and their attitude.
"I was the commander, I generally felt such a great amount of weight on myself," said Fabregas, who is presently playing his football with Monaco. "I needed to lead this group to win something. I gave everything.
"Now and then, I used to return home after we lost and I used to cry, I used to endure, I used to spend restless evenings languishing.
"And afterward you lose a game, you're in the transport this way, wrecked, and afterward you hear a few players giggling, contemplating where they will be going out later.
"This was continuing for a couple of years. Definitely, we were playing wonderful football and I delighted in that side of things.
"Yet, I was squeezing myself to lead, to do everything, and at one point I felt sort of desolate.
"Particularly in the last a few years, I felt Robin and Samir were the main players who were at my level intellectually and in fact.
"It is anything but an egotistical comment, it's the means by which I felt around then."
In any case, those remarks have not gone down well with Sagna, Arsenal's previous right-back who was a partner of Fabregas from 2007 until 2011, when the midfielder constrained through his transition to Barcelona.
