Four hidden iOS 14 features for iPhone that Apple didn’t reveal during WWDC 2020

Apple’s vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, gave ample amount of time to iOS 14 during the WWDC 2020 presentation. He, along with other colleagues, talked about new apps for AR and language translation, along with some major updates coming to the iOS 14 home screen, Messages in addition to some others in general. However, there were still some features that didn’t get any stage time and were only discovered by those who installed the iOS 14 developer beta version. And these are pretty nifty but useful ones. Check it out.

One of the features, which is probably the biggest one for users, is the flexibility to set third party email clients and browsers as defaults. Until now, iPhone users had no choice but to keep using Apple’s own Mail and Safari browser apps for mailing something or browsing content. Although this was not revealed for iOS 14, it was clearly mentioned for iPadOS 14.

Second important (but ignored during WWDC) feature in iOS 14 was the Back Tap accessibility feature. What this does is that it lets you tap anywhere at the back of the iPhone twice or thrice to perform certain actions like taking screenshots, moving a page back or anything else for that matter. Some have even claimed on social media that it works flawlessly with cover case too.

The third one is SMS filtering in Apple Messages. Although this app got a good amount of limelight for its new Pinning features, group conversations and inline text abilities, what was discovered later was its ability to filter certain text messages. This can be seen in the Messages settings section and is enabled by default.

And lastly, Apple has updated its Find My app in iOS 14 so that it now supports third-party accessories as well. The company calls this feature as ‘Find my network’ and says that any tracking accessory maker can sign up to use Apple’s tech and allows the tech to be monitored using the Find My app.
