Apple iPhone 12 launch could be delayed by 2 months

Apple's iPhone 12 series launch could be delayed this year as production is now reportedly 1-2 months behind schedule. Apple’s annual iPhone launch event takes place in September.

According to a report by Nikkei, Apple is trying to reduce production delays for its iPhone 12 series. The company is reportedly pushing suppliers to get production done as early as possible. At present, production for the iPhone 12 models are delayed due to “factory lockdowns and workplace absences during the pandemic”.

The report adds that Apple’s situation has actually improved now. Three months back the iPhone maker was seeing a possibility of postponing the launch to 2021. But Apple has managed to really reduce delays by a large margin. Apple and its suppliers are also working overtime to meet the scheduled release date.

Apple has also reportedly not finalised on the designs for the iPhone 12. This is expected to cause even further delays with assembling possibly happening in October. More delays could occur in the next few months for the iPhone 12 series.

Apple’s biggest supplier Foxconn had to shut down earlier this year due to coronavirus. But it managed to start operations in March and assured a full workforce as well. But it looks like the virus implications may actually be very heavy on Apple.

Apple’s flagship iPhone launches are always crucial and this year it’s even more important as the company is launching its first 5G iPhones. The iPhone 12 series is expected to come with 5G support on all four models. Apple will also go for a design change with the iPhone 12 models featuring flat edges like the new iPad Pro models.
